Our Routines
Each week children will receive a homework folder. This folder is to be returned each week on Wednesday and homework will be sent out on Fridays.
Reading
Reading is so important in Year 1, we would love it if you could try to read at home at least 3 times a week. Children can read their own books from home too. Just let us know you have read at home by writing in your child's reading journal.
Writing
We have a cursive handwriting policy and children learn to write in this style. There are lots of practise sheets online for cursive handwriting, but if you can not find them, please ask a Year 1 member of staff.
Maths
A key target for year 1 children is to be able to count forwards and backwards to 100 from any given number, so lots of counting practise at home. Also children need to be able to write the numbers 1-20 as words.
Year 1's topic for Autumn term is 'Muck, Mess and Mixtures'.
Following our phonics screening meeting held for parents (21/01/2019) please find the power point attached from the session which details the phonics screening test 2019.
This is an example screening from 2018. The pass mark on this test was 32. Please note that this may change depending on the year the test is taken.
For additional phonics support at home; reading with your child, sounding out words they are unsure of or discussing the meaning of unfamiliar words. You can access previous screening tests from the GOV website. Also https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/freeIndex.htm has free game resources the children are used to playing in school.
Times tables support:
In class we have been using the "Super movers" videos to help us learn our times tables.

By the end of Year 1, children are expected to be able to read and write these tricky words. Please practise these as much as possible at home. Thank you.
