Hindley Green Community Primary School receives prestigious Artsmark Award

Pupils and staff at HGCP are celebrating after receiving a prestigious Artsmark Award in a momentous year for the programme as it celebrates 20 years of arts, culture and creativity in schools.

The Artsmark Award is the only creative quality standard for schools, accredited by Arts Council England. It supports schools to develop and celebrate arts and cultural education, putting creativity and wellbeing at the heart of the curriculum. Artsmark ensures every young person can be creative and access a diverse, high-quality cultural education.

In order to achieve our Artsmark Award, we had to develop our arts and culture provision to embed a broad and ambitious curriculum. This was achieved by creating an overall plan that was committed to and delivered across the whole school.

The Artsmark assessor commended us on how pupils and teachers rose to the challenges during COVID and lockdowns. 'You ensured the arts remained accessible throughout this period by providing a range of resources and activities which were stimulating and collaborative, including online galleries and opportunities to use your digital learning platform to share examples of artwork'.

We’re extremely proud of achieving our Artsmark Gold Award. We are committed to delivering a high-quality arts and cultural education and we look forward to continue to grow with Artsmark.”

Jubilee Arts Week

We are so proud of our Arts Ambassadors for planning a fabulous Jubilee Arts Week. We performed, danced, designed, created, entertained and celebrated as an Artsmark School.

  • Our choir entertained the residents of The Oaks Care Home, Hindley Green and put on a Jubilee Tea Party for them. They sang and served the residents cakes and biscuits produced by our EYFS and KS1 children.
  • We welcomed The Pop Project and WigLe Dance in to work with our children, and our Creative Crew children were presented with their Arts Award Discover Certificates.
  • We showcased our t-shirts at our catwalk event and children and staff performed together on stage for our Jubilee Concert which included the steel band, choir, soloists and staff acts.
  • We also celebrated our wonderful artwork at our HGCP Arts Exhibition, which was a project organised by Miss Burns.

If you want to see more examples of our work, we've been tweeting though-out the week @HGCPSCHOOL.

Jubilee Arts Week: 23rd - 27th May

Throughout the week the children will be taking part in a range of Jubilee inspired Arts activities and we'll be rounding the week off with a fabulous 'Jubilee Celebration' on the Friday afternoon.

Take a look at our action packed activities for Jubilee Arts Week!

Artsmark Update: December 2021

We'd like to introduce you to our Arts Ambassadors who will lead the pupil branch of our Artsmark journey. They have been putting forward lots of great ideas and we look forward to planning a varied programme of Arts and Cultural activities next term.
We have been delighted to welcome back children to our KS1/KS2 choirs this term and our Steel Pans programme for Y4 is again being led by Lucy Mansell from One Education, Manchester. Many children are being invited by Lucy to also attend the after school club so we look forward to hearing many wonderful performances from our talented musicians over the coming months.
We are proud that some of our children have been attending both the Wigan Music Service 'Show Choir' and were featured in the virtual service for the "Light for a Life' at Wigan and Leigh Hospice. Our Quest Trust Young Voices Choir will again be singing at the Manchester Arena on the 9th of February. We are all really looking forward to this fabulous event!
Our Y4 'Creative Crew' are working extremely hard to gain their Arts Award qualification and have produced some amazing artwork. Our fabulous dancers will also be taking part in an exciting dance festival with WigLe Dance in the Spring term.
.
Finally, EYFS and KS1 children have all been busy preparing for their productions, and we'll be sharing a festive video of our KS2 children performing some Christmas songs, so keep an eye out for that on class dojo before the end of term!

May 2021

We have had lots of superb applications from children who would like to become arts ambassadors. As part of the application process they had to tell us their ideas for projects and activities which were innovative and exciting! We are extremely proud of all the children who applied and will be announcing our new Arts Ambassadors this term.

Both Mr Fisher and Mrs Sinclair have been busy organising our return to extra-curricular music activities and Lucy our Steel Pans teacher has been working with Year 4 the term as part of the Wider Opportunities project. Mrs Sinclair has also launched a new lunchtime ‘Creative Crew’ Arts Award project. The project will focus on minimalist art and music with a small group of Y3 children who have been nominated to take part by their class teachers.

We have also taken part in a wide range of projects and competitions such as the Irish Music Celebration (One Education Manchester), Music Alive (Wigan Music Service), Royal Mail Heroes stamp design competition and reception class took part in Jack and the Beanstalk, a music project run by the Greater Manchester Music Hub.

February 2021

We are proud and excited to announce that we have started our Artsmark Award journey. Every young person should have the opportunity to be creative and to experience and participate in a curriculum rich in arts and culture. We will be working extremely hard over the next two years to further develop authentic, inspiring and engaging arts and cultural experiences.

We will actively involve our children by electing ‘Arts Ambassadors’ who will lead pupil voice, thus developing belonging and ownership of our Artsmark journey.

We’ll be updating you with our progress via our new Arts twitter page @HGCPArts, our school newsletter and on our website.

What is the Artsmark Award?

In 2015, the programme was refreshed to align with School Improvement Plans and support core EBACC and STEM priorities, giving the curriculum breadth and balance.
