Phonics and Reading Schemes
Here at Hindley Green Community Primary School the phonics scheme which we use is Essential Letters and Sounds (ELS).
To support early reading the children who are accessing phonics are provided with a decodable book which is matched to the sounds that they are learning within their phonics lessons. We strive for all children to be fluent readers and ensure that all reading books are suitable for the child's ability. As the children progress through school we immerse them in stories and novels by familiar authors to capture their interest and imagination to promote a life long love of reading.
