Welcome to Year 2R

We have 27 amazing children in our class this year.

Miss Ruane is the class teacher and supporting our learning we have Miss Pulford, Miss Mills, Miss Makin and Mrs Howarth.

Year 2 is a great year where we learn to become more independent.

We have daily English and Mathematics sessions, including maths mastery, reading, phonics/spelling and handwriting.

Each child has an i-pad to help improve their computing skills as well as allowing them to access a variety of apps to support their learning, in school and at home.

P.E and music are taught by specialist teachers.

Our DREAM curriculum provides a broad and balanced range of topics to engage the children in their learning.

We look forward to sharing with you all of our fantastic learning through a skills and knowledge based curriculum. We hope our year will be full of fun, excitement and learning.

General Information

Communication
Class Dojo is our online learning platform and will be used as a way of communicating and keeping parents and carers up to date with regular goings on in Year 2R.
All children in Year 2R will be given a log in and a parent log in, in order for you to keep up to date with messages and important information. If a parent or carer wishes to speak to a member of the Year 2 team, ClassDojo or phone calls will be used to discuss any relevant matters. Please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Physical Education

PE will take place on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Children are expected to bring a fully labelled PE kit during the first week of each half term and leave it in school for our allocated PE days.  Your child’s PE kit should consist of a white t-shirt, black shorts/pants and pumps/trainers. PE kits will be sent home at the end of each half term. Earrings are not to be worn on PE days.

 Homework

Homework will be set weekly. It will be set on a Friday and must be returned by the following Wednesday. Homework will consist of either one piece of English or maths work. Your child may also bring home a list of spellings which are to be learned ready for the following Friday. A topic project may also will be set each half term to allow the children to fully immerse themselves in the class topic and showcase their learning.

We also encourage children to learn their 2's, 5's and 10's timetables as well as the Year 2 Common Exception words as we will be focusing on these throughout the year.

Reading

We encourage children to read a wide range of books. We send home a school reading book and the children all have accounts on Bug Club. Please feel free though to read any other books you have with your child.

All children will  be provided with a decodable home reading book every Friday. This will be continually targeted to their reading ability to enable them to become confident, fluent readers. We expect the children to read their reading book at least four times a week. Re-reading the book will support and further develop children's decoding skills, fluency and intonation. Reading books need to be returned to school the following Thursday, however, we do ask that reading books are still brought to school each day so that children can read them with adults in school.

Parents/carers it would be great if you could inform us with how your child has read their book with a comment on 'Boom Reading', to let us know how they are getting on.

We do not expect children to read a book a night! Little and often is the key to a successful and happy reader. Our aim is to instill a love of reading into all children.

Digital Learning Platforms

Ed Shed (Spelling and Maths games)

 Purple Mash (variety of activities)
